Big idea: Vestibular System



A hammock gently swaying in a warm ocean breeze or the quiet creaking of a porch swing in the dappled afternoon sunlight can bring thoughts of a little life balance in an increasingly complex world. As a parent of a child under 2, however, the nursery glider moving back and forth at 10:16pm, 2:01am, and 5:34am might be the closest you can get to that beach or front porch. It can work in a pinch though!
All that nursery rocking reinforces balance of a different kind in your child. The rocking, swaying, and movement stimulate your child's vestibular system, the part of the brain that controls balance. In Kindermusik class, we rock to lullabies, bounce on knees, and even make hammocks out of blankets to help lap babies and crawlers begin to develop their sense of balance and to reinforce balance and stability in young walkers.

Everyday connection: Rock on! Try out some of the rocking moves from class at home. If your child feels nervous about hammocking in class, try it at home where she feels most comfortable. Think of different ways you can hold your child as you rock or bounce together.

So, I am not so great at updating this blog! The weeks come and they go. Time seems to have wings! That's why it is so important to take time to spend with your child. Fall Semester is Just around the Corner

Where did the summer go? If you are like me, the summer has just flown by. Now is the time to make plans for your fall activities. I hope Kindermusik class will be in the plans. I have missed seeing all of your little ones over the summer. The fall schedule is ready! Classes are available at FBC Montgomery on M-T-Th mornings and Wednesday evenings. I will continue to offer classes at FUMC in Prattville on Friday mornings. If you need an e-file brochure sent your way, please let me know. I also have hard copies.

I am looking forward to meeting the new military moms who have moved into our area. Come preview a class to see if Kindermusik is right for you and your child. Classes begin the week of August 29. Prattville classes begin September 16.

At the Beach

Yesterday was our Music and Storytime AT THE BEACH! We had so much fun singing about all the fun things to do at the beach. We listened to sounds of dolphins, the water, the wind, seagulls and played instruments to Sand in My Sandals! We took a boat ride in our hula hoops and even played with beach balls!
